“What is Your Religious Tradition?” ‘Nones’ Tied with Evangelicals, Catholics — Pulpit & Pen

Truth2Freedom's Blog

by Cherie Vandermillen · March 21, 2019

[Jack Jenkins | Religious News Service] In a shift that stands to impact both religion and politics, survey data suggests that the percentage of Americans who don’t affiliate with any specific religious tradition is now roughly the same as those who identify as evangelical or Catholic.

According to newly released General Social Survey data analyzed by Ryan P. Burge of Eastern Illinois University, Americans claiming “no religion” — sometimes referred to as “nones” because of how they answer the question “what is your religious tradition?” — now represent about 23.1 percent of the population, up from 21.6 percent in 2016. People claiming evangelicalism, by contrast, now represent 22.5 percent of Americans, a slight dip from 23.9 percent in 2016.

That makes the two groups statistically tied with Catholics (23 percent) as the largest religious — or nonreligious — groupings in the country.

Prophets of technology, or prophets of GOD?

Motivation & Environment

If we read the lifestyles of some people who have made great contributions to technology, but whose religious statuses have not been as pronounced as their contributions to technology, would we say such people were servants of technology, or materialism? In addition, if certain people have been able to foresee future technologies before they were produced to help mankind, would we say that such people are prophets of technology, or prophets of GOD?

Two great visionaries:

Before we go further, let’s take a brief look at a part of the lives of 2 great people who are worthy of mention: Leonardo da Vinci, and Jules Verne—not to mention Nostradamus and many others who were more religiously inclined. For the average person, predicting what would happen in one or two years, is a difficult task; imagine how much more difficult it will be to predict what would happen in a century’s…

Life, Forever

“Alice: how long is forever?

White Rabbit: Sometimes, just one second.”

In your life you will meet a variety of people. Some of their performances in your life will train as lightning, others will kick you off the ground, and the third will provide a solid foundation under them, some of them will reveal you, some will help you to get up, some will take away what they promised, others will make you speak, some will light you up, some will immerse you in the dark, so you will have the possibility to find your own light .. Some will not stay with you forever, some will disappear as soon as their mission in your life is done… You will have something to learn from each one, a dedicated lesson. Love everyone, don’t forget to thank everyone and let them go if they want to…

Source of Inspiration

Whenever my sister and I
had to share something
like a piece of cake, mom
would tell one of us to
cut the piece in half, and
the other could choose which
half she wanted.

I have thought about this many
times. At what point do we
begin to want to leave the
larger piece for the other
person? How does generosity
begin? How do we reach the
point where the pleasure of
giving is greater than the
pleasure of receiving? Think
how different the world would
be if we were all at this point.

The gates flipped open on their own accord
They just returned from the rapture
With the Saviour at the fore front
Shouts of joy and hallelujah filled the air
As they walked on the streets of gold
She beamed with joyous smiles and laughter
And wondered if she could speak a little with the one who died for her on Calvary’s tree
In a blink He appeared before her saying with
love and compassion expressed with a warm embrace
Daughter you’re welcome
Into the New Jerusalem

In the New Jerusalem
There is no sorrow nor pain anymore
But joy and laughter fills the air everyday
In the New Jerusalem
We will work in the streets of gold
And we’ll get to see the Saints of old
Greeting each one
And the father of faith will be there to say hello
And walking side by side with our Savior

On a faithful Sunday morning
Heaven looked down to the earth below
Just to see his bride
She’s seated in church
Dressed in beautiful attires
But her heart has wandered far away
And heaven wept cause her soul
Heads to destruction
Where their worm dies not
For she’s waiting but isn’t ready

Physically she’s dressed in gorgeous clothing
Ironed and coupled with expensive perfumes
But her heart stinks like a morgue
And her garment is all torn revealing her secret parts
Her shoes are made in expensive gold and silver
But spiritually she works barefooted
In the deadly thorns of sin
But remember she’s supposed to be the bride of Christ
But adultery with the world engulfed her soul
She’s waiting but she isn’t ready

Just like the five foolish virgins of old
She dances to the sound of music in her church
And offer praise to heaven with…

‘The fruits of silence is certainly Prayer’

knowing it’s value is nothing but real power.

It’s really useful in almost everywhere,

Sometimes it is like a soothing cool shower.

In schools, colleges, hospitals and prayer halls,

Can’t say you may find it even in shopping malls.

The good thoughts and ideas peep out of silence,

they also love it who are in trouble and tense.

The students and teachers all like it as it’s a grace,

the result of it is often visible in the face.

The tired and ailing they pray for it as they rest,

maintaining it in the class room is the students real test.

Are you bored of noise around you and really restless?

What you really need at that moment?Any one one can guess.

Ask the man of prayer and do learn what he says-

silence is indeed a true friend as it never betrays.

What are Fimiliar Spirits

Encourage Yourself In The Lord

What You Need To Know About Familiar Spirits

Familiar spirits are spirits that can gain access into people or the personalities of individuals by making them believe that they are spirits of the departed family members. Furthermore, a familiar spirit is a demon, but a lot of Christians do not know that because of what these demons seem to know about them. A medium usually summons this demon with the intention that the spirit his or her commands. Also, these familiar spirits are perceived as the spirits of people who have died.

What is the Bible saying about these spirits? Let’s take a look at Deuteronomy 18:11
The Bible knows the real mission of the familiar spirits; they are demonic forces imitating people to deceive them. This is why the Bible strongly warns us against them.

Luke 16:19-31
In verse 26 in the above chapter shows us that people cannot…

The Master Of The Waves. (Rewritten as inspired. Copyrighted.) An analogy. By Timothy Baugh. March 18, 2019.

From The Darkness Into The Light

The great rivers of Life are in the power of the Lord. And they carry headlong all those who despise Him: and entangle their paths. They sweep away their banks. (they know no boundaries to the damage they can cause). Their flooding catches the bodies (of weak, sinful ones) and destroy their lives. For they (Life’s trials, tribulations, and hardships) are more swift than lightning and more aggressive. Those who cross (meet them) in faith are not moved (troubled or distressed); And all those who walk on them without blemish (in purity) shall not be afraid. For the lesson in them is what the Lord has done. All who cross (meet) them in faith are not moved. (troubled or distressed). Put on, therefore, the name of the Lord (Jesus Christ), and know Him. Then, you shall cross them without danger, for the rivers (and seas) will be subject to you…

Praise God every day. Praise Him forever.

Learning From God's Word

God is our “Refuge” (Psalm 142:5). In His “mercy”, He leads us in His way. He protects us and rescues us from our enemies (Psalm 143:8-9). The Lord, “the One in whom we take refuge”, is described by the Psalmist as “my Rock… My merciful One, my Fortress, my Stronghold, my Saviour, my Shield” (Psalm 144:1-2). The Lord is “great.” He is to be praised “every day.” He is to be praised “forever and ever” (Psalm 145:1-3).

Obedience and the Christian

Encourage Yourself In The Lord

The Importance Of Obedience In Our Christian Race
The importance of obedience even in our daily lives cannot be overstated; you can imagine the chaos if drivers ignore the traffic signs, and just do whatever they think is right. Or imagine the impending doom if a factory worker neglects the rules of operating a machine and decided to use his guts to operate the device. In essence, obedience is, especially in our Christian race. Just the way you are helping yourself and not the government by obeying traffic rules is the same way you are helping yourself when you obey God.

God’s intention for your family
Imagine how happy a family will be if everyone obeys God’s words respectively. Ephesians 6:1 “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.”

The above verse shows how God wants children to behave in a family; He knows parents know better…

It’s not the porn industry’s fault that you watch porn, it’s yours. It’s you who types into the search engine. It’s you who closes all the doors and makes sure no one is home. It is you who clears all the search history when you are finished satisfying your desires. It is your sin. Period.
Sure, do the models and producers take a cup of the blame for providing the sin? Of course. However, ultimately it is because of your own lustful heart that you watch what they post. Yet you are not alone. I think of all the times I blamed my sin on others when really it was…

Giving God All The Glory

Pure Glory

by Apostle Gabriel Cross

Is your worship what God requires
Are their flames in your heart burning for Christ
Are you singing what he wants to hear
Or what’s familiar or popular in your ears

Did you know that worship
Is more than a performance
But how we love The Lord
In unity and harmony
How we treat each other
Our sister and our brother
Is a reflection of our praise
and our worship
We need true repentance for true deliverance
and forgive as Christ has forgiven us

Worship is a lifestyle
not a formality
Let’s give God
All the Glory
So I will give you all my worship
I will give you all my praise
You alone I love to worship
You alone are all my praise

A King without borders

The Christian Mind

Psalm 72:11-13

Christ came as the awaited Messiah who would occupy David’s throne. This passage reflects the expectation that he would be a global King, whose rule would extend over all the earth.

While the Jewish hope that the Messiah would literally live in Jerusalem in a restored palace wasn’t realized, Christ does reign as a King. He rules over nations through the Gospel. And his authority extends from China to Australia, from Africa to South America.

Wherever individuals, families, and nations submit to the gospel, they come under his rule. And ‘he will have dominion from sea to sea, and from the River to the ends of the earth’ (v.8)

But he is not merely a powerful King, he is a compassionate one. He is a ruler who cares for the oppressed, feeds the hungry, and heals the sick. We saw him do this while on earth, and he continues…

Growth Comes with Challenges

Background scripture: Jeremiah 12

“So Jeremiah, if you’re worn out in this footrace with men, what makes you think you can race against horses” (Jeremiah 12:5, MSG)?

This week has been a rough one. My patience and faith have definitely been tested. I’ve been feeling a little like Jeremiah lately. Not really understanding how people could be mean and cruel, but still prosper. Why were these people bothering me? But as God reminded Jeremiah, He reminded me. Challenges prepare you for the next level. Challenges stimulate growth and if you back away from the challenge how can you be a more refined, faith enlarged, warrior for Christ?! You see, the enemy knows the Word just like we do. He knows how to twist and manipulate God’s Word. He also knows our weaknesses. But remember the Lord never tempts us, but He will allow us to be tested (James 1:13, NIV)…

As I prayed each passing day, to have him heal, to have God remove his pain, to wish upon him the return and the love of his children, God was healing me, blessing me, and returned me to the original plan he had set out for me. As I fought Gods plan, yet prayed that it came to volition, my scales were removed, and I was set free, but in the while, I lost the man I loved, to a disease, to a lie created by the forces that hate God’s creation. I weep daily for the many souls who are taken by this affliction, the lie of all lies, the death of all deaths.

The Way Of God Which Leads In The Paths Of Righteousness. (or, How To Seek God’s Face.) March 12, 2019. By Timothy Baugh.

From The Darkness Into The Light

The following is my short insight into this topic.   The Way of God is the way of all goodness, and goodness in ALL. Hence, only in this way is God seen ‘in all His works’. These are “the paths of righteousness.” And in observing, beholding, contemplating upon His works one sees the beauty and majesty of God displayed there. This is what is meant by ‘seeking God’s face’.  Jesus Christ Himself could rightly say: “If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not. But if I do, though ye believe not me, believe the works: that ye may know, and believe, that the Father is in me, and I in him.” John 11:37-38.    May we too ‘seek God’s face’ by contemplating His Beauty and Majesty as displayed in all His works.   Prayer   Almighty, all wise, and loving Father of Heaven and Earth. How Do We Know When God Speaks Or Guides Us?

Done with Religion

By Mike Edwards

It isn’t always easy to believe in an invisible God; it isn’t always easy to know how an inaudible God is speaking or guiding us. If God was more visible or audible, wouldn’t our spiritual journey be easier? Jesus established a 24-7 relationship with twelve men and they struggled to believe everything that came out of Jesus’ mouth. Today, God’s awing or overpowering presence may only lead to fearful obligations to obey. I am convinced the road traveled of learning and reflecting better leads to lasting convictions. Maybe God speaks to us in non-dramatic ways out of love!

We are right to look for God’s direction through God’s spirit.

It is reasonable to imagine that since God is invisible that God’s Spirit resides in us and somehow guides us. There is rightly an emphasis in Christian circles that God guides up by their Spirit as opposed to…

Who Has What?

Exploring Alura

In the beginning there were two groups of people.

First there were the Have-More(s). They were an interesting group of people. They felt right. They felt better. They felt they knew everything. In fact, they were so sure of what they knew, they knew they knew they were more than everyone else and therefore it was meant they should have more than everyone. Hence being the Have-More(s). It just felt right.

Then came the Have-Less(es). The Have-Less(es) were a wonderful group of people. They spent all their time worrying about love and fun and joy. They were always having a good time. No matter the less the Have-Less(es) found themselves to be in possession of, it was always just what they needed.

The Have-More(s) were a tricky bunch of people. The Have-More(s) could never decide what they needed to have more of. They always felt there was something to found…

Acts of Faith

Serpent Box

If I am lost in the blowing grasses,

If I wander from the path,

I am in your hands, time.

And in them there is a stillness,

Where light becomes animate,

And tactile,

Like little lost pieces of a former self.

Where bones fall and whiten.

Where palm-sized animals go to burrow

In the darkness of the black, living earth.

Where stones rise speckled with bright

And ancient lichens,

Drifting from rock island to rock island

Where roots cling and flowers find purchase,

Each tiny paradise and enclave,

A world unto itself,

A land that I discover,

Lost in time and seen by no one as I see it,

I make it mine by this act of my loving,

I enter into the folds of time and

For awhile I do surrender,

Finally letting go,

And learning,

The meaning of faith.

His will is that we see a revelation of His love in everything He has made, in everything He says, and in everything He does. That we come to know Him by being loved by Him and loving Him in return.

Preaching the Word of the Lord – Psalm 104:1

Learning From God's Word

“Praise the Lord!” (Psalm 104:1).
We have come here to praise the Lord. Why do we praise the Lord? “Lord my God, You are very great.” God is great in power. His power can impress us, but it will not save us until we are touched by a special power – the power of His love. God is great in holiness. His holiness (Isaiah 6:3) shows us our sin (Isaiah 6:5). It’s His love that brings us salvation (Isaiah 6:7). When we see the greatness of His love, we can truly say, “Praise the Lord.”

5 Things Extroverted Creatives Want You to Know

Atra Fabula

As a society, we don’t generally see extroverts as the intellectuals, the artists or the creative types, or as people who pursue goals in areas which are (wrongly, in my opinion) stereotyped as “quiet”. We often see extroverts as frivolous, lowbrow party animals — or at least as “friendly” and “people-oriented”. The truth is, extroverts are simply energized from being among people, while introverts tend to recharge in solitude.

Although I am very extroverted, I was not always aware of it, as I am not a people person or a party animal at all. Rather, I am a task-oriented, choleric-tempered, Type A person of excessive extremes, who needs a high level of eustress in the same sense that everyone else needs air. (And I happen to love an energizing, stimulating environment as well as all things over-the-top.)

US offers $1 million reward for information on Osama bin Laden son

US intelligence agencies increasingly see the younger bin Laden as a successor to his father for the mantle of global jihad.

The United States on Thursday offered a $1 million reward for information on a son of late Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, seeing him as an emerging face of extremism.

The location of Hamza bin Laden sometimes dubbed the “crown prince of jihad,” has been the subject of speculation for years with reports of him living in Pakistan, Afghanistan, Syria or under house arrest in Iran.

“Hamza bin Laden is the son of deceased former AQ leader Osama bin Laden and is emerging as a leader in the AQ franchise,”…

Financing Big Government with the Printing Press

International Liberty

Back in January, I wrote about the $42 trillion price tag of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s Green New Deal.

To pay for this massive expansion in the burden of government spending, some advocates have embraced “Modern Monetary Theory,” which basically assumes the Federal Reserve can finance new boondoggles by printing money.

I debated this issue yesterday on CNBC. Here’s a clip from that interview.

Wow, this Modern Monetary Theory (MMT) reminds me of the old joke about “I can’t be out of money. I still have checks in my checkbook.”

I don’t know how far Ms. Kelton would go with this approach. I know from previous encounters that she’s a genuine Keynesian and thus willing to borrow lots of money to finance a larger public sector. But her answer at 2:45 of the interview also suggests she’s okay with using the Federal Reserve to finance bigger government.

In either case…

TEPCO officials recently said to Akahata that high-risk zones in the Fukushima Daiichi plant have become smaller and that now workers do not need to wear a full-face mask and a protective suit in 96 percent of the plant premises. This is because the level of radioactive materials in the air has decreased as a larger area of the site is now covered with concrete, according to officials. At the crippled nuclear power plant, the number of workers coping with the aftermath of the 2011 nuclear accident, though, is still more than 4,000 per day.
However, the hidden reality regarding contamination risks seems to differ from the impression the utility wanted to create by citing the figure “96 percent.” In a recently published…

On Nationalism and History: Poems by Fahmida Riaz and Sri Sri

Nikhil, etc.

“Three Dynasties” by Indian painter MF Husain, depicting three empires that ruled South Asia: the Mughals, the Mauryas, and the British.

If you’ve been watching the news recently, you may be aware that tensions between India and Pakistan are at an all-time high, following a terrorist attack on Indian military forces in Kashmir, Indian strikes in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, and Pakistan’s capture of an Indian pilot. I’m not here to offer any political analysis, but something I have noticed on Twitter and other social media is jingoistic, hypermasculine nationalism, calling for strong military responses on both sides.

Caught in the middle, as has been in the case for too long, are the voices of Kashmiris — the people who are most affected by conflict between these two nuclear powers. Let’s not forget that Kashmir is the most militarized region in the world, and for decades Kashmiris have been unable…

Attitude of Gratitude

Attitude is everything. Mindset if key. I bet you hear this frequently. You may even grasp the concept. It’s natural to be thankful when all is going well. But how do you maintain a grateful heart, even in the midst of trying times?

We go through seasons when life is good. Circumstances seem to align perfectly. The future feels brighter than ever, and everything falls into place.

It’s lovely to imagine a perfect world. It would be wonderful if every day were a sunny day. But it’s more likely that you’ll face some hard times along the way. Life happens. Trials come. Whatever the case, an attitude of gratitude keeps you on track.

Positivity isn’t something you catch. It’s a choice. Being thankful with a negative mindset is hard. In the same way, a positive mindset makes you more aware of the blessings in your…

The Plight Of The Gingerlily – Jim Webster #blogtour

But I Smile Anyway...

Today, I am delighted to host fantastic author Jim Webster as he is going on a tour of the Blogosphere for his new release, The Plight of the Lady Gingerlily.

Without further ado, I shall pass you over to Jim!

We shall start with a photo, and the story that was inspired by it!

Delicate work
A casual observer might have assumed that Benor Dorfinngil was in a good mood. He had a spring in his step and might even be whistling a merry tune.
There was good reason for his high spirits. Things were going rather well.
He had funds. Admittedly he’d ended up giving two of the ten alar coins to
Shena, on the grounds that the costs entailed in purchasing a dress might well come within the definition of legitimate expenses incurred during the investigation. On the other hand, he’d been firm with Tallis. Benor couldn’t see…

The Power of Process Automation: The Linchpin to Digitization and AI Adoption by Daryl Eicher

PaaS Community Blog

“How we respond to the opportunities and challenges of the outside world now determines how much the outside world values us.”

– Seth Godin, Linchpin: Are You Indispensable?

The Future of Digital Workforce Automation

I think about the future of work in the intelligent enterprise a lot. I have two brilliant kids just entering the workforce and a bright three year old. I’m always amazed by their creativity, resilience, and engagement in the mashed up real and virtual worlds they were born into. Disruptive technologies such as process automation with RPA and conversational AI offer the hope that my kids will never have to cut and paste across devices, apps, and reports.

Less mechanics, more design, faster time to market. That’s what scales. Orchestrating dynamic interactions among employees, intelligent bots, and robots is the quickest way to build your digital workforce.

In this segment of our podcast series, we discuss…

Psychopathic US Senator Openly Calls For Maduro To Suffer Gaddafi’s Fate, by Caitlin Johnstone

Anyone who called for Marco Rubio to suffer Gaddafi’s fate would probably be arrested on the spot. From Caitlin Johnstone at caitlinjohnstone.com:

Influential US Senator and 2016 presidential candidate Marco Rubio has tweeted a blatant death threat and incitement of violence against Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro. As of this writing the post has 13 thousand shares and counting.

The tweet consists of a “before” and “after” photo of former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, who in 2011 was mutilated to death in the streets following a US-led NATO intervention in Libya which was launched on false humanitarian pretexts. The first photo depicts Gaddafi alive and confident with a smile on his face, the second depicts him covered in blood following his capture by a militia group minutes before his death.

The Age of Tyrannical Surveillance: We’re Being Branded, Bought and Sold for Our Data, by John W.

The only data corporations and the government don’t want is that which is purely trivial, like how much belly-button lint you gathered last week. From John W. Whitehead at rutherford.org:

“We know where you are. We know where you’ve been. We can more or less know what you’re thinking about… Your digital identity will live forever… because there’s no delete button.”—Former Google CEO Eric Schmidt

Uncle Sam wants you.

Correction: Big Brother wants you.

To be technically accurate, Big Brother—aided and abetted by his corporate partners in crime—wants your data.

That’s what we have been reduced to in the eyes of the government and Corporate America: data bits and economic units to be bought, bartered and sold to the highest bidder.

Those highest bidders include America’s political class and the politicians aspiring to get elected or re-elected. As the Los Angeles Times reports, “If you have been…

The socialist menace

Fully Myelinated

A couple really good columns on this a couple weeks ago.

First, Jamelle Bouie:

Next came the president’s address to Congress. And this week at a rally in El Paso, Tex., Trump went after the “radical left,” blasting a caricature of progressive climate policies. “I really don’t like their policy of taking away your car, of taking away your airplane flights, of ‘Let’s hop a train to California,’” he said, bizarrely adding that under the Green New Deal resolution introduced by liberal Democrats, “You’re not allowed to own cows anymore.”

The clear expectation is that many or most Americans will recoil at any hint of “socialism,” either on principle or because of its association with Venezuela, which the administration has tried to elevate as a major adversary. That might have been true in Trump’s cultural and political touchstone, the 1980s, when Ronald Reagan’s hard-line anti-Communism defined American foreign and domestic policy…
