CHILD MARRIAGE.

A writer's touch

I dedicate this poem to the children who are victims of child marriage. Nothing will change until we act.

CHILD MARRIAGE
My vocal chords were ready
But my heart was edgy
Mama read me the story of malana
A lad that speaks for the voiceless
Voiceless I am
As papa arranged the wedding
Though it was trending
But my heart wasn’t ready
I prayed for deliverance like
A babe longing for her mother’s breast
And my chest became a crest of dead bones
School became a history
Child marriage is a curse I said
Child marriage has beheaded the future
I have always pictured
Papa said he is a good man
As he arranged the flowers on the wall
I could see nothing but a gall
And the vessel of my soul got broken
Like broken eggs can never be regained
And behind the curtains
I heard the chuckles of…

BUHARI’S APC GOVERNMENT ARRESTS SOWORE SUPPORTERS FOR PASTING POSTERS

WELCOME TO MY BLOG

*BUHARI’S APC GOVERNMENT ARRESTS SOWORE SUPPORTERS FOR PASTING POSTERS*

Five members of the African Action Congress party were arrested during the early hours today, Sunday, 9th December for pasting posters in Lagos State and are still being held in custody.

After discussing with police responsible for this arrest for the last ten hours, concerned members anxious for their release have been advised that the orders are directly from the Police Commissioner.

The five supporters arrested were not violating any laws. Pasting of posters and creating awareness for *the only alternative* to the rot that has decimated our nation is not and has never been a crime in Nigeria, and this recent act of injustice suffered by the Take It Back Movement, the AAC and the presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, is further proof that the APC party is not interested in a free, fair election or in doing what is best…

NEITHER DO I CONDEMN THEE

A writer's touch

Friends please check out this poem

Caught in the bed of ignorance
The chains of arrogance
Held tightly to my wrist
I languished in the bed of sin
Cause i have tasted the other side of the world
Though it tastes sweet in my tongue
Never knew i was wrong
Suddenly my accusers appeared
Like the evil beast of Hades
Dragging me to best of judgement
And there he was
I heard love speaking
My night turned into day
And it was brighter than the moon
Love held me so strongly
Even though i did wrongly
Abundantly he washed my dirty robe
And we rode into heaven’s gate
As he whispered into my ears
Woman where are your accusers?
Hath no man condemned?
Tears couldn’t help but to burst my eyeballs
As I whispered back
No man Lord
Neither do I child
He said wrapping me into the paradise of…

“It’s impossible to change the world or a society. How are we going to change the mindsets of millions of people? So why don’t we just stay silent, or ignore and go along with the status quo?” Some people may say so because they are the privileged ones, unaffected by the current situation.

Change is certainly possible, but it won’t happen overnight, nor come easy. It takes decades of combined efforts and commitments to achieve that. And one of the important ways that you can contribute to change is by speaking up.

We speak up to raise awareness for social issues and call upon other people to join us on addressing those issues. We can voice out our concerns as well as speak on behalf of those whose voices are unheard. We want to improve the welfare of the entire society…

Staying Home for the Holidays? You Can Still Eat Your Way Around the World

Discover

In many parts of the world the holiday season is in full swing — which means hearty meals and festive get-togethers, but also chaotic airports and overpriced hotels. If you decided to eschew the questionable joys of holiday travel, it doesn’t mean you can’t still experience new cultures and flavors in your kitchen.

Saveur Magazine recently announced their 2018 Food Blog winners and finalists, and among them are several fantastic WordPress websites specializing in the culinary traditions of one country or region. Here are three to whet your appetite — why not browse some recipes, read the stories behind them, and try something new for your next gathering?

A Kitchen in Uganda

Sweet potato chips masala, from A Kitchen in Uganda

With too few exceptions, African cooking is still woefully underrepresented outside the continent. Sophie Musoki, the food-loving blogger who created A Kitchen in Uganda, works…

FIRST FEMALE MEDICAL DOCTOR IN IGBOLAND

Nigerian Peoples

Ada Priscilla Nzimiro, MB ChB (April 30, 1923 – March 22, 1951), a graduate of the University of Glasgow, was the first Igbo woman doctor using modern medical practices in the Igbo region of Eastern Nigeria after her graduation in 1950.

Of Ugwuta (Oguta) ancestry, she was born in Port Harcourt to Richard Okwosha Nzimiro, a politician and the first indigenous mayor of Port Harcourt from 1956 till his death in 1959, and his wife Mary Nwametu Onumonu (1898–1993), a wealthy merchant (initiated by her mother Madam Ruth Onumonu, a wealthy oil palm merchant), political activist, and member of the NCNC who galvanised Igbo women for the Biafran war effort in the late 1960s and lost all her landed properties in Port Harcourt after the war due to her role in trying to divide the country.

Nzimiro left Nigeria for The University of Glasgow in 1945 to study Medicine and…

Putin’s Approval Rating Dramatically Dips

To Inform is to Influence

The Russian Levada Center is showing Putin’s approval rating as dramatically dipping.

There is no explanation given for the recent approval dip.  The main reason, however, was midnight shocker of the pension age increase announcement during the Russian World Cup in June 2018.

Russia’s continuing economic downturn as a result of Western sanctions is also having an effect.

Russia’s crisis in Ukraine and especially in the Kerch Straits is certainly not helping.

The previous low for Putin was in December 2011, when hundreds of thousands took to the streets, protesting the falsification of the parliamentary elections of that year.

Building the Bonds That Make a Business Great

Aarif Billah

My reading note on a book by Joel Peterson, The 10 Laws of Trust.

We live in an interdependent world whereby in order to progress, trust is essential. If we can’t trust others, we cannot work toward shared or common goals.

This is true for all form of relationship, true for families, couples, team members and even nations of the world.

In the book, JetBlue chairman Joel Peterson with David A.Kaplan outline their 10 laws of trust. They further explain what trust means, how to promote it inside organizations and how to restore trust once broken.

An interesting reading indeed.

Main reading points in my reading notes:

  • JetBlue chairman Joel Peterson details his “10 laws of trust.” First, trust begins with personal integrity.
  • Trust involves respecting others.
  • Trust means that you empower the people around you.
  • Trust is about setting clear goals for your employees and holding them accountable.
  • Trust…
