”Serial acts of suppression” that’s what President Tsai Ing-wen of Taiwan called it after Beijing snatched off Burkina Faso; one of the only two countries left for Taipei in Africa.
It has been a loss for Taiwan in Africa in the recent years as the country continues to lose its grip of its allies in the continent. The unceasing cut in diplomatic ties by different African States as a loyalty to China has made it difficult for Taiwan government to keep the country’s presence in the 54 African nations.
There were once 30 African states which had ties to Taiwan. Now there is just one. This is because countries are forced to choose between China or Taiwan under the “one China” policy. Since the Cold War era, China had demanded that countries must choose in favor of one of them and that diplomatic relations with both is not possible.

Endocrine disruptors are chemicals that can affect normal hormone functions in the body. These are compounds that have a chemical structure that the body mistakenly recognizes as a naturally occurring hormone. They can interfere with normal body chemistry in several ways. These compounds can block the action of a hormone, or have a similar effect as the hormone. They may also alter the production of hormones or the chemical message sent by a hormone.
They can be found in household items, consumer goods, foods and the environment.
Compounds that act as endocrine disruptors include:
- DDT – a pesticide
- Phthalates- used to make plastics more flexible, found in food containers, toys and personal care products
- Polychlorinated Biphenyls or PCBs- used in many consumer items. These are now banned but still persist in the environment.
- Phenol compounds- bisphenol A (BPA) found in food containers, alkylphenol found in laundry detergents, and triclosan found…

Another Chemo Treatment
Another chemo infusion is in the book now. Yesterday was the second infusion of this round. I do three consecutive weeks and then I get a week off. Week 2 is also the “short week”- I only get one of the two regular chemo drugs.
We meet with the oncologist first, to go over blood work and vitals, talk and get a physical exam. Then, if it all looks well, I get the “green light” for chemo that day. (Needless to say, “all looked well”!) She continues to be shocked at how good the thyroid looks and feels. If you remember, that’s where this all started and that’s what was supposed to give me 4-6 months to live….even before they found the other two cancers. It, and the nodes around it, are still necrotic- dead…but the radiation I received early on that focused on the thyroid, as well as the ongoing chemo, seem to be having a positive impact on that area, which I think…

So it’s back to school/college and we all have a fresh wave of determination and motivation. We’re ready to get those A’s! However usually after the first week (sometimes the first day 
) we go back to slacking, just like the year before and before you know it your cramming the day before your exam just hoping to pass and those goals of success and A’s are out the window. You’ll promise yourself next year or next semester will be different but you usually go round and round in this cycle until it’s too late. บัตรสวัสดิการดังกล่าวนั้น รัฐบาลออสเตรเลียผลักดันเพื่อต้องการให้ประชาชนรู้จักการใช้งานเพื่อการดำรงขั้นพื้นฐานในชีวิต อีกทั้งยังมุ่งหวังการลดปัญหาความรุนแรงในสังคมในพื้นที่ห่างไกลที่มักจะประสบปัญหายาเสพติด ความรุนแรงที่เกิดจากแฮลกฮอลล์ และการพนัน
จากข้อมูลของสำนักบริการสังคมออสเตรเลีย (Department of social services) ระบุว่า บัตรสวัสดิการนี้ จะมีลักษณะและการดำเนินการที่คล้ายกับบัตรเดบิตทั่วไป แต่จะไม่สามารถใช้ซื้อของบางอย่างเช่น แอลกฮอลล์ การพนัน และไม่สามารถถอนเงินสดได้
ใครมีสิทธิรับบัตรนี้บ้าง
แรงงานในภูมิภาค Ceduna, East Kimberley และ Goldfields ของรัฐเซาท์ออสเตรเลีย และรัฐเวสเทิร์นออสเตรเลียทุกคนมีสิทธิ์ได้รับบัตรสวัสดิการดังกล่าว ยกเว้นแต่ผู้รับบำนาญเกษียณอายุ รวมถึงผู้รับบำนาญทหารผ่านศึกจะไม่มีสิทธิ์
ส่วนประชาชนในพื้นที่ห่างไกลของรัฐควีนสแลนด์บางส่วนเท่านั้นจะมีสิทธิ์ได้รับบัตรดังกล่าว เช่นคนทำงานที่อายุ 35 ปีขึ้นไป หรือแรงงานจบใหม่ที่กำลังเพิ่งเริ่มหางานและเข้าร่วมในโครงการ Newstart ของรัฐบาลด้วย อีกทั้งขึ้นอยู่กับเงื่อนไขต่างๆตามแต่ละท้องถิ่น ไม่ใช่ทุกคนที่จะได้รับบัตรชนิดนี้

บัตรสวัสดิการของออสเตรเลียนี้ ไม่ใช่บัตรกดเงินสดของรัฐ แต่เป็นบัตรที่รัฐบาลออกให้ประชาชนที่เข้าเงื่อนไข โดยมีลักษณะคล้ายกับบัตรเครดิต ที่จะมีวงเงินให้ประชาชนใช้รูดซื้อสินค้าที่จำเป็นในชีวิตประจำวัน เช่น ซื้อของใช้ต่างๆตามร้านค้าที่มีสัญลักษณ์ EFTPOS ใช้จ่ายบิลค่าบริการต่างๆ ใช้ซื้อเสื้อผ้า

Cardinal Reinhard Marx of Munich hit the nail on the head in a New Year’s Day homily when he spoke of the need for the church to modify tradition in response to changing modern times.
Change is needed, he said, “in light of the failure” surrounding the clergy sex abuse crisis. One long-standing tradition that must be up for “review,” he said, is celibacy for priests.
The current measures to address sex abuse are not enough without adapting church teachings, the cardinal said. “Yes, matters are about development and improvement and prevention and independent reviews — but more is also demanded.

‘All-Out War Against Religious Minorities’: Faith Leaders Expose China’s Brutal Persecution of Christians
China is tightening its grip on the country’s Christians through repeated efforts to persecute and silence the Church.
Chinese believers are being rounded up, imprisoned and some even tortured for their faith. In addition, government officials are removing crosses from churches, burning Bibles and demolishing church buildings.
“Churches have been forced to shut down. China has banned the online sale of the Bible as it works to rewrite the scriptures to include pro-government messaging,” said Jay Sekulow, chief counsel for the American Center for Law and Justice.
Sekulow says it’s part of an all-out campaign to eradicate the faith of Chinese who choose to follow Jesus Christ.
Meanwhile, the ACLJ has launched a petition drive to fight for the freedom of one Christian pastor, John Cao, who Sekulow reports is behind bars in a “crowded Chinese prison cell” and has been “in a Chinese prison for nearly two years.”

Israel announced at the end of 2017 that it would leave the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization in solidarity with the United States, whose withdrawal also became official on Tuesday.
It takes a year for the withdrawal to take effect.Israel and the United States will remain as observer states of UNESCO.
Israel, which joined the body on Sept. 16, 1949, has nine cultural sites on UNESCO’s list of World Heritage sites, including Masada, Acre, the White City of Tel Aviv, and the Necropolis of Beit She’arim.

“People are going to have to start paying their fair share in taxes,” the recently elected New York Democrat told TV show “60 Minutes” in an interview set to air Sunday.
Speaking of prior decades’ taxation rates in the country, Ocasio-Cortez added, “Once you get to the tippy tops, on your 10 millionth dollar, sometimes you see tax rates as high as 60 or 70 percent.”
