I WON’T FORGET

A writer's touch

In the midst of the stillness
I try to be calm
But yet there’s a turbulence
I try to be mute
But right inside
There’s a war of words
My eyes searched for the truth
That cannot be explained by spoken words
Then you came with your whispers of love
I won’t forget

As the sun strokes my sleekly skin
Your overwhelming presence
Feels my spirit
Standing between my doubts
Wiping the tears of my pain
Just as when my mother comforted me
Your love wraps me
Protecting the gem in me
I won’t forget

Though the storm chases me
With persistent tides
Though the stars refuse to appear
In my darkest nights
Though the fiery beast of this world
Chase my soul
With fierceness of destruction
And the temporary pleasures of this world
In your peace which comforts
My raging heart will I rest
That I won’t forget

RENEW

A very warm welcome to the RENEW Blog! We’re on week two and today we will be looking at John chapter 3. Rachael shares her thoughts on these scriptures and we pray that it really resonates with you.

Jesus Teaches Nicodemus

Read

John Chapter 3:1-15

Now there was a Pharisee, a man named Nicodemus who was a member of the Jewish ruling council. He came to Jesus at night and said, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the signs you are doing if God were not with him.”

Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.”

“How can someone be born when they are old?” Nicodemus asked. “Surely they cannot enter a second time into their mother’s womb to be born!”

He Has Given Me Life

My Journey

As I am just waking, blessed with a new day, I lie and wonder why some insist on rejecting Jesus? Why do they do everything they possibly can to disprove or stray from His teachings?

Why do they accept that there are “many ways to God,” but reject the words of Jesus when He said, “I AM THE WAY.” Is their way somehow a better way?

Is it the rules that are hard to follow? Is it the lack of proof for His existence? Is it because of the lack of evidence for a Creator, even though the evidence is in His creations? Is it just easier to not think about such a subject, or do they believe that no one is in need a Savior to be in good standing with a Holy God? Do they think that a need for a god is ludicrous? Maybe they haven’t read…

Never means Never

The Soaring Eagle

“God has said, “Never will I leave you;
never will I forsake you.”
(Hebrews 13:5)

Reflection:
Some years ago I hurled my mobile phone across the room. Why it had developed the frustrating habit of switching off in the middle of calls and of message retrieval I failed to understand. It made me feel angry, frustrated and got at – by whom I’m not sure – but definitely persecuted. I didn’t lose control totally, but hurled it purposefully into an armchair at full force. From there it bounced out and lay on the floor …  silent. I thought that it should at least have whimpered! I felt relieved, justified … and a little bit childish. That last emotion I chose to ignore.

Some days later I remembered the incident. As I did God spoke clearly into my mind. He said to me,

“I will never do that to you! I…

THE VOID

A writer's touch

As the sun shines it’s brightness; the heart of every man is awakened to work and the day’s job. Men and women are all dressed up in clothes, and fanciful attires, smiles are pasted on their faces and they exchange pleasantries. But for instance their hearts were opened and scanned with an X-ray that detects pain and anguish, you will discover that in the heart of every man at least 75% of mankind there’s a void. A void that makes the heart bleed,a void that makes pillows to be soaked with tears, their past hunts them each day. Many have gone through traumas, sexual molestation, incurable diseases, betrayal, rejection, disappointments, relationship failures. All this and more eats more into the heart of an individual creating a void that can never be filled by hugging, good clothes, eating good food. It is the shrill scream of an anguish soul that can’t be heard…

DEFEATING YOUR NIGHTMARES.

A writer's touch

Nightmares can be likened to the wind, which blows all over the earth. it’s been experienced by every individual either, old or young at certain period of their lives. I remember years ago while i was still very young, most at times i woke very frighten in the middle of the night after waking from a nightmare, i will cling to my mum on the bed and close my eyes very tight in the fear of being caught up with the monsters of my dream world. Funny enough it’s a fact that nightmares occur to different individuals in different ways, you could have seen an unknown face chasing you or an old woman with a scary face, falling into a well, being buried in the dream ETC. The question now is what’s the reason behind all the different series of nightmares and why do they seem to us as if…

Incomparable Nature – a poem by Paul Vincent Cannon

Manifestation – Word of the Day

IMG_0371.jpeg

Planted from tube-stock, so quite small, but in this photo twelve months old and tripled in size, and since ten times in size. This is an Isopogon cuneatus (Proteaceae), a low growing plant endemic to Australia – 35 species, of which 27 are found in Western Australia.

Incomparable Nature

Such an extrovert,
you have no shame at all,
always flirting,
so brazenly displaying yourself
for all to see,
disrobing at every turn,
nothing hidden,
plying your natural wiles
as mermaids singing their hypnotic song
drawing me down, down,
to gaze upon your beauty
and stay with you in an eternity
of longing and,
as you hold my every breath,
and steal my eyes and my hours,
my senses are captive
to your incomparable charms.

THAT’S FAITH!

The Godly Chic Diaries

Do you see it too? You may not see it at first glance, but I see miracles in this photo. What I see, isn’t just children. I see JOY. Real deal Joy. This kind of joy doesn’t come from surface or temporary things. And there is so much more. I never thought this would be my path. But. But God makes the impossible happen. He makes hearts transform and friendships grow and He puts the most “unqualified” people right where He wants us — relying on Him. Trusting Him, knowing where we can’t, He already has.

How do I do this? What do I do exactly? What if I mess up and don’t do enough? Where do I even start? I asked myself all these questions (and so much more!) Know this: Whatever God wants you to start, you may not have ANY experience, or any idea where your first…

CAN YOU MAKE YOUR WORK FUN?

ravi singh

In my view, by all means!!

You don’t need to retire early to stop working. You just need to take the ” work” out of work. Make work fun by doing these two things:

  • Find people you enjoy working with: Ofcourse you don’t always choose  who you work with, but when you do, choose projects that allow you to work with people  you trust, respect and enjoy spending time with.
  • Find problems you enjoy solving: Again, you may not always have a choice, but try to seek out projects you find interesting and are passionate about. If you are not excited about any of your current projects, propose a new projects that you can lead.

HOW TO TAKE OWNERSHIP TO GET JOB SATISFACTION!!

ravi singh

Autonomy, influence, and a sense of meaning are all associated with lower stress. If you need to find more joy, take on a new project that will improve you job, team or workplace.

While you may not have the same degree of  freedom that an entrepreneur does, you can find ways to set the agenda and claim ownership of tasks and projects.

This ownership will likely to improve your job satisfaction while adding an important accomplishment to your resume!!

Happy Friday!

One sort of “resolution” for my blog was to share my own writing from time to time…so that is what I am doing! This is an older story of mine…maybe like from 1.5 years ago when I was 15, but I still wanted to share it because it is polished and well, finished. Can’t really say that about any other of my other writing projects…but anyways, if you want to critique it or give me feedback, don’t hesitate! Tell me you like it, tell me you hate it…whatever your heart contents.

The Vine
“What could have been done more to my vineyard, that I have not done in it? wherefore, when I looked that it should bring forth grapes, brought it forth wild grapes?” (Isaiah 5:4)

In Scripture we find many references to vines and vineyards, but there are three major passages that together reveal three aspects concerning the character of God and His love for His people.

The first, Isaiah 5:1-7, includes our text. Here we find that God, the owner, planter, and caretaker of the vineyard, cannot contain His disappointment, for despite the loving care showered upon the vine, it has brought forth improper, worthless fruit. In this parable, “the vineyard of the LORD of hosts is the house of Israel, and the men of Judah his pleasant plant” (v. 7), the chosen people who had seen more clearly…

All We Need Is Jesus?

Harotian Essentials

Hey Friends,

I almost did it. I almost allowed what was in front of me to distract me from the awesomeness of Jesus. Let me explain.

In the Gospel of Mark Chapter 8, Jesus feeds four thousand people with only seven loaves of bread and “a few small fish” (v.7). This isn’t the only time he has done this. If you are unfamiliar with the first time, Jesus fed five thousand people right before then with five loaves of bread and two fish. Afterward, Jesus and his disciples went to see the Pharisees who demanded to see “a miraculous sign” to prove that Jesus was indeed the Son of God. Jesus was like, “Look, man, I’m not proving anything! Why do people keep asking me to prove stuff?” Well, he didn’t quite say it like that:

“When he heard this, he sighed deeply in his spirit and said, “Why do…

MARRIAGE IS LIKE A MUSTARD SEED

UNDER A JUNIPER TREE

Today I received the following “What’s App” text from my husband:

“A happy marriage is the union of two good forgivers.” —Ruth Bell Graham

I replied:

“We obviously have a happy marriage then—we both have to forgive so much all the time!”

God, repentance, and forgiveness are three of the most vital ingredients needed in a relationship if you are going to have a happy and fulfilled marriage.

“Love is an act of endless forgiveness, a tender look which becomes a habit.” —Peter Ustinov

We need to develop the habit of forgiveness and tenderness in our marriages.

When we announced our marriage, our home fellowship group at that time gave us a card with the following words inscribed on it:

“But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” —Matthew 6:33 (NAS Bible)

That card hangs on the wall in our hallway…

HOW TO FIND EXTRA TIME FOR CRUCIAL TASKS!!

ravi singh

Crises and special events force us to find extra time in our day for crucial tasks. In an ordinary week, however, those hours are buried in unnecessary meetings, interruptions and inefficiency.

Don’t wait for the next emergency. I suggest two ways to regain wasted time.

  • Analyze your calender: Look back at the last month. which meetings were truly needed to advance your goals? Then look forward at the coming month and eliminate ones that you can bypass without any consequence.
  • Ask for feedback: Our worst time-wasting activities are often invisible to us. Ask direct  reports and peers to identify tasks that you could do less often or stop altogether.

Do women always wish to look younger ? What about men ?

Curiosity ,about knowing the age of women always remains a hot

topic, whether in our daily routine or during meetings with other

company members or while comparing one women to other in

socializing times ,or looking at our neighbours ?

It is said one should never ask a women of her age,I am not sure why

this is so !

As far as men are concerned I don’t think majority of them care about

age of another male.

My article is meant  equally to both men and  women.

Think of the industry which thrives on our money because we love to

look younger .

And what are  the ways,we try to look  pleasingly younger ??

JOY COMES IN THE MORNING

PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU ARE FOLLOWING THIS YOUNG NIGERIAN WRITER…SHE IS BECOMING PROLIFIC IN HER CAREER.

A writer's touch

PSALM 30:5 says For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning. (KJV).

In life there will always be times where you’ll weep, a time when your soul needs comfort and healing, a time whereby you might not even find anyone to console and encourage you, and even now you may be going through situations that seem as though God is sleeping. Understand that at times God allows all this to try our faith and to make us believe more sorely on him.
Remember he said in Psalms 121:4: Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep (KJV). So see you present and protect it, look forward to your future and believe it, for definitely joy is going to come in the morning, so put off that sorrowful look and put on the…

Sitting broken on the cushion she imagined what sort of family she found herself, it happened from her ancestors down to her mother. Collaboration Station

Leah's Blog

With the world of technology booming and growing exponentially, businesses have definitely taken it into account. They see how the industry is doing so well so they want to find a way to get involved. Besides businesses, collaborations often happens when one influencer, on YouTube, notices another and they “collab” and make a video to attract more and more of their viewers and followers.

Like I said above, YouTube is a great platform for collaborations. For example, influencers have certain products to show off from certain sponsors. So, to gain more traction from viewers, they will collab with another influencer and make a similar video showing off the same products so that twice the amount of people will see it. Kind of like killing two birds with one stone! Anyways, with the amount of collaborations that happen on YouTube daily and weekly, there is a higher chance of gaining popularity…

How Friendship Helped a Follower of Islam See the Truth About Jesus

From The Darkness Into The Light

Nabeel QureshiHow does a committed and passionate follower of Islam reconsider his faith and become an outspoken apologist for Christianity? This is a story of being introduced to Jesus through friendships, investigations, dreams, and visions.

What follows is a conversation between the late Nabeel Qureshi (@NAQureshi), author of Seeking Allah, Finding Jesus (Third Edition) (Zondervan, 2018)—the first book to win ECPA Christian Book Awards® in both New Author and Non-Fiction categories—and his friend David Wood, who led Nabeel to consider the veracity of the claims of Jesus Christ. The discussion took place in Atlanta, Georgia, during the Evangelical Theological Society’s annual meeting in November 2015. Nabeel and David reminisced about their friendship, the Bible and its role in Nabeel’s conversion, and what they had learned about ministering to Muslims.

Pure In Heart

From The Darkness Into The Light

Being pure in conduct also includes honesty and integrity in dealing with our fellowmen. A Christian should be known in his neighborhood or place of business as an honest person, a person who can be trusted. Jesus said, “Blessed are the pure in heart.” Do you want to be happy? All right, apply this Beatitude to your heart. Take it to yourself.

The pure in heart are the only ones who can know what it means to be supremely happy. Their hearts are pure toward God and, as a result are pure toward their fellowmen. They are happy because, in possessing Him who is All and in All, they envy no man’s worldly goods. They are happy because they envy not another man’s praise. Because they are the enemy of no man, they regard no man as…

HOW TO BE OPEN TO CRITICISM!!

ravi singh

Constructive criticism is essential for creativity, innovation, and problem solving. To succeed in life you need all these three and therefore, you need to be sure not only that you are open to criticism, but you actively seek it out.

Don’t simply ask for general feedback but ask people- direct reports, peers, close friends- to poke holes in your ideas and approaches.

Critique can be a useful approach to test your ideas and keep people and your team accountable!!

The Problem of Boredom

From The Darkness Into The Light

Do you know what nearly all the sociologists say today in their study of young people? The greatest problem facing young people today is not sex—it is boredom. Did you know that when they had the riot at Hampton Beach in New Hampshire they asked the young people what was wrong, why did they do it? Many of them said, “Just for the hell of it.” Bored—life has no purpose, life has no meaning. Give your life to Christ and you will never spend another bored minute.

Give your life meaning and make a decision to accept Christ today.

Prayer for the day

Lord Jesus, when I gave my life to You, my days were flooded with the splendor of Your love.

WHY DO YOU DOUBT GOD?

A writer's touch

Frequently questions arise in our heart, even after a fervent prayer. People scream loud “Amen” in church but if their hearts were opened, you will find questions like how? When? Who? The question now is why do you doubt God? It will interest you to know that Doubt is a mental state in which the mind remains suspended between two or more contradictory propositions, unable to assent to any of them. Other words you can use in place of doubt is disbelief, uncertainty, distrust etc. Many Christians acknowledge that God is great and they have seen his works from the Bible and in so many acts he carried out in the lives of others, but the fail to believe that he can do even that which seems impossible. And a large population of believers admit that yes God can do all things, but in action and prayers they assume that…

Slave of Righteousness

Jessy

Happy Thursday! Almost the end of the week you’ll!

In August I joined a small group from church that meets every other week for bible study.  Last Friday,  after a delicious Asian meal, we discussed what it meant to abide in God. We decided that aside from our daily devotional we were going to at least memorize one verse weekly. This is one area I lack in my spiritual life but, know it’s necessary. So I am up for the challenge even though I struggle to keep my girls’👭name straight lol.

I’ll probably be memorizing the scriptures I occasionally post here from my bible journaling. However the first verse I want to engrave in my heart is Romans 6:18

Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.

I want to remember who I serve. As humans we have the ability to choose our actions. However if…

A Place Where Travelers May Live…Forever
“O LORD, who may stay in your tent? Who may live on your holy mountain?” (Psa_15:1)
Surely by now you know that you are a Traveler in this Life? And, you must also know that travelling takes it toll. Whether it be by planes, trains, or automobiles – travelling exacts its hefty fare from those who spend their time going to and fro for this or that.
All along the roadway there are opportunities aplenty for us to make the right or wrong choice; there are potholes and pitfalls, inclines and rock slides, tight turns and narrow margins – each demanding something of us at every step along the way.

How Humility Values More Than Successful Life

Towards Jesus

Humility is a pretty good manner in our hearts, but in our world, humility is actually treated as almost forgotten virtue, sadly. We strive to be accepted by other people, strive to have successful job, strive to win always in competitions and strive to have beautiful image in our names. We work more, exercise more, pray more, study more and more until we are tired enough to finish the To-Do lists. Even though, we continue because we want to get the goal.

STOP!

David Fischer

Galatians 5:22-23- “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.”

Happy Sunday everyone! I hope your Saturday was relaxing and whatever you did brought you closer to Jesus. Amen? I know many of you are off to church this morning as hopefully this catches you before you go because I would love for you all to ponder a few things. Simply put we as believers in Christ need to STOP. Pump the brakes, through the car into park and just stop. Stop what you ask? Well let us examine our daily verse above…

People often ask, “how do I know that someone is truly following Christ?” Well the first answer is ultimately we don’t know Only that person and God do. However, as seen in Galatians there are a few clues that may hint at…

IN A TWINKLING OF AN EYE.

A writer's touch

RAPTURE.

Like the sudden appearance
Of a thief in the night
Characterized with fear and anguish
A sudden event that wears
the garment of joy and pain
Faster than the speed of light
Within the twinkling of an eye

Secrets unfold
Like scales falling
From a blind man’s eyes
Repentance is sought for
Like a baby who cries
in hunger for her mother’s milk
Within the twinkling of an eye

Joy clothes the righteous
And pain hugs the wicked
Money pursuing it’s seekers
Willing to be cuddled by them
But no one seem to care
And it’s left all alone
Within the twinkling of an eye.

At the last trump
Blood flows in the streets
like an oil spillage
Wives searching for babies
Husbands searching for wives
Answer to prayers is no more
Within the twinkling of an eye

Shops and offices
Calling out for people to buy
But the…

Witnesses to God!

timbushiworldblog

When we talk about witnessing what do we mean? Witness here means being fully convinced about God and being a representative of Him. “Simply put, to witness to Christ is let others see Jesus in you!”

And this is not just an instruction from Christ to us but a last Commandment which we must abide by as Christ liken people that we are.

15 He said to them, “Go throughout the whole world and preach the gospel to all people. 16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved; whoever does not believe will be condemned. 17 Believers will be given the power to perform miracles: they will drive out demons in my name; they will speak in strange tongues; 18 if they pick up snakes or drink any poison, they will not be harmed; they will place their hands on sick people, and these will get well. (Mark 16:15-18)

‘I Didn’t Have the Language to Call It Racism’: An Interview with Nicole Chung

Longreads

Victoria Namkung | Longreads | October 2018 | 11 minutes (3,020 words)

Since the early 1950s, parents in the United States have adopted more than a half-million children from other countries, with the vast majority of them coming from orphanages in Asia, South America, and, more recently, Africa. South Koreans are the largest group of transracial adoptees in the U.S., and by some estimates, make up 10 percent of the nation’s Korean American population.

Nicole Chung, however, was born prematurely and placed for adoption by her Korean immigrant parents in Seattle, and raised in a sheltered Oregon town five hours outside of Portland. Adopted by religious and loving white parents, she grew up as an only child who always felt a bit out of place. The narrative she was always told — that her biological parents made the ultimate sacrifice to give her a better life — comforted Chung…

How Shivya Nath Turned Her Travel Blog into a Book

Discover

Five years after becoming a digital nomad, travel blogger Shivya Nath just hit another major milestone: last month her book, The Shooting Star (named after her popular blog), was published by Penguin India. We recently caught up with Shivya to chat about her blog-to-book journey, the always-evolving travel-blog scene, and her other recent adventures.

Congratulations on your book! How did The Shooting Star evolve from a blog to its new, physical format?

Thank you; I’m so excited that The Shooting Star is out as a book in the universe now. It was definitely a serendipitous development. Over seven years ago, when I first started travel blogging, I had no idea of the things it was going to lead to — a life of long-term travel, a sustainable source of income, a chance to work with some great people and brands, and now, a book!

In retrospect, my blog…

Why China’s Tech Giants Are Betting Big on Online Travel

Travel With Sam

China’s top three internet giants Baidu, Inc., Alibaba Group and Tencent Holdings have been making big investments to take advantage of China’s historic travel boom. More than $2 billion (RMB 13.7 billion) in accumulated investment has been deployed to the tourism industry as of the end of 2015 by just these three companies, according to Xinhua News Agency.

All three internet giants are targeting the online travel sector, which is a natural extension from their existing internet services. In 2017, China’s online travel market was worth $130 billion, according to 21st Century Business Herald, a leading Chinese business newspaper. As China grows to become the world’s largest domestic and international travel market, the online travel industry has attracted more than $10 billion in investments since 2010.

China-tourism-sportsBaidu is the biggest shareholder of Qunar.com (Chinese name means “where to go”), which is ranked as one of China’s top three mobile travel service providers, after Ctrip and Ali Mobile Travel. According to Qunar.com, more than one million hotel checkouts are made through its website every day.

Satisfied by Righteousness

From The Darkness Into The Light

By Billy Graham   •

Man hungers for food, and God sends the sun and rain upon the golden fields of grain. The grain is made into flour, and flour into bread, and man’s physical hunger is satisfied. Man hungers for love; and God ignites the fire of affection in another heart, and two hearts are made complete in the bonds of holy matrimony.

Man hungers for knowledge, and God raises up institutions of learning, calls men to be instructors, puts it into the hearts of the rich to endow them; and men are satisfied in their thirst for knowledge. Man hungers for fellowship; and God allows him to build cities where men can share their industry, and their knowledge, and their skills.

Don’t tell me that God can supply man with…

NKJV Chronological Study Bible Notes

From The Darkness Into The Light

David’s Laments

David’s hymns of praise were associated with the time when David rejoiced before the ark of the covenant (see “The Book of Psalms” at Ps. 8). The other major category of psalms is laments, in which the singer complains to God and asks for help. Related to the lament is the song of trust, in which the singer expresses faith in God’s ability to deliver.

Several of the psalms associated with specific points in David’s life are laments or songs of trust. For example, Ps. 57 and 142 reflect David’s days of hiding in caves from Saul, while Ps. 3 and 7 reflect his flight from Jerusalem. All of these psalms are laments. Many other laments and songs of trust, however, are attributed to David, but provide no historical context. Nevertheless, these psalms can be read in light of this time in David’s life.

THE REASON FOR MY SCAR.

A writer's touch

Ajoke stared into the mirror, as she rubbed the scar on her face, examining the the depths of the scar, it’s so deep she exclaimed, the only begotten child of my terrible past. I am Ajoke and this is my story. It all started when my parents got separated, I and my brother Ade lived with my mom. My mom engaged in many secret affairs in other to sustain and to take care of us. As my dad never cared. I and my brother were still in Junior secondary school. Most times, mom brought in male visitors in to the house, while she chased us away from the room. We always wondered why mom will not let us be with her visitors. At times we peeped through the window to see what went on. Amongst all of mom’s visitors, there was one Mr Idris who always loved to buy me…

WHY DO YOU FEEL DEPRESSED ?

A writer's touch

How does it feel when you are burdened with something troubling your heart? You can’t sleep, eat, and even most at times you can’t share it with anyone. As a result it eats deep into your soul, and if you can look inwardly enough you’ll find out that the main cause of your depression is something that can be fixed, yes! You heard me right, it can be fixed. So then why do you get depressed?

Depression in a layman’s language is simply a state whereby you feel gloomy and hopeless continuously, which may further lead to drastic consequences, if it lingers.
According to the world health organization (WHO), depression is the most common illness worldwide and the leading cause of disability. They estimate that 350 million people are affected by depression, globally.
I have also been a victim of this countless times and so have you i believe. Looking…

Day 25: Christlike Humility

From The Darkness Into The Light

Today’s reading is drawn from Philippians 2:3-11.

I WOULD BE HARD-PRESSED TO FIND ANY section of Scripture more convicting than this one. Here we read of Jesus’ humble attitude that should shape our view of ourselves and others. It should so transform our thinking that it inhabits all our actions. What difference can humility make? If you’re humble, you stop acting out of selfishness. You curb any conceited habits. You begin to regard others as more important than yourself—really. When you see a need in the life of another, you regard it as greater than a need in your own. Humility of mind cultivates that kind of thinking. It makes you deliberately and consistently look out for others.

I like Eugene Peterson’s rendering of this passage in The Message. It reads, “Don’t push your way to the front; don’t sweet-talk your way to the top. Put yourself aside, and…

Bearing and Helping to Bear
September 30, 2018

“Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ. . . . For every man shall bear his own burden.” (Galatians 6:2, 5)

This is one of the most commonly cited Bible “contradictions,” the apostle Paul commanding us, almost in the same breath, to bear other people’s burdens and yet to bear our own burdens. There is, however, no real contradiction, and both commands are equally valid and important.

The problem is partly one of translation. There are two Greek words used here, baros and phortion, respectively. The first means “heavy load,” the second “responsibility.”

When a Christian friend has been stricken with a great burden—whether sickness, financial need, death of a loved one, or even a grievous sin in his life that he has been unable to overcome by his own strength (see…
