Rightly Divide the Word
“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” (2 Timothy 2:15)

This command is for us to “give diligence” (Greek spoudazo) for God’s approval by “rightly dividing” the word of truth. That which is to be rightly divided is not in doubt: “Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth” (John 17:17). The end goal is to “display yourself” as one who is, therefore, approved by God.

The key is to “rightly divide” the Scriptures. The Greek word orthotomeo, only used this one time, has several shades of meaning: to cut straight, to cut straight ways; to proceed on straight paths, hold a straight course; to make straight and smooth; to handle aright; to teach the truth directly and correctly.

Two passages emphasize the way…

2 Chronicles 26-28

Uzziah’s Reign

26 All the people of Judah took Uzziah, who was sixteen years old, and made him king in his father Amaziah’s place. Uzziah built up Elat and restored it to Judah after King Amaziah had passed away.

Uzziah was sixteen years old when he began to reign, and he reigned for fifty-two years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Jecholiah, who was from Jerusalem. He did what the Lord approved, just as his father Amaziah had done. He followed God during the lifetime of Zechariah, who taught him how to honor God. As long as he followed the Lord, God caused him to succeed.

Uzziah attacked the Philistines and broke down the walls of Gath, Jabneh, and Ashdod. He built cities…

Is Genesis 1–11 Actual History?

The early chapters of Genesis contradict ancient history as portrayed in public schools, television, and movies. For example, our culture insists humans evolved from ape-like creatures, while Genesis says we were made in God’s image.1 Culture says the earth formed over eons, but Genesis 1 says it took God just six days. Is it possible to believe both the Bible and evolution’s history? Many try. Some say early Genesis doesn’t convey real events and that God never intended for us to take Genesis 1–11 as history but as poetry. How well does this idea work?

We may think this approach leads to a lovely land of resolution where we can simply label controversial Scriptures “poetic” to avoid their plain meanings…

Today’s Message Part One: America—Justice is Coming! July 29, 2018

Thank you, Lord, for the wonderful words that we have looming in the future, about the resurrection of this nation! Please, give us the grace to continue to pray passionately for our nation. And to recognize that You’ve heard our cries. Amen. Well, dear Heartdwellers. I’ve had a LOT with my family these last few days. And other things that keep popping up.

So, I’ve been bylined and delinquent on getting messages to you. But I’m here now. And I want to share this word with you. I’ve actually been working on it for three days. My Family, we are needed on our knees right now. The Lord is suffering terrible torments over the world situation. And I want to say, Our Victim Soul intercessors are giving us feedback about a crisis with Syria and…

POTUS Under Attack!

Why IS This Not News Worthy?

On Friday, July 27, 2018 the president of the United States had his life threatened while flying on Air Force One. See revealing video below on how this launch was captured on flim for all the world to see and still no new channel covered it.

They covered it up as they always do about everything Trump has done after being elected as our 45th President of the great Nation. A couple of weeks ago, it was him and his family who lives were threatened. This make the second missile attack within a month against the first family.

This is a big thing and unbelievably no news network has picked up the story? How very sad! The president of the United States’s Air Force One Plane has come under attack and no news outlet thinks enough of him to report such threat…

Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.Matthew 6:12

Corrie ten Boom often thought back over the horrors of Ravensbruck prison camp and realized that it was hard to find forgiveness in her heart—the true Christian attitude for the former Nazis that would reveal through her the Spirit’s goodness. Where was love, acceptance, and forgiveness in a horror camp where allegedly more than 95,000 women died? How could she ever forget the horrible cruelty of the guards and the smoke constantly coming from the chimney of the crematorium?

A few years later, Corrie was speaking in a church in Munich, and when the meeting was over she saw one of the cruelest male guards of Ravensbruck coming to speak to her. He had his hand outstretched. “I have become a Christian,” he explained. “I know that God has forgiven me for the cruel things I did…

Today’s Lectio Divina: Excerpts from Psalm 88. (MsgB)

A Korah Prayer of Heman

Why, God, do You turn a deaf ear? Why do You make Yourself scarce?
For as long as I remember I’ve been hurting;
I’ve taken the worst You can hand out, and I’ve had it.
Your wildfire anger has blazed through my life; I’m bleeding, black-and-blue.
You’ve attacked me fiercely from every side, raining down blows till I’m nearly dead.
You made lover and neighbor alike dump me; the only friend I have left is Darkness.

How Pepsi briefly became the 6th largest military in the world

Michael1942's Blog

Tim Kirkpatrick, We Are The Mighty 3 hrs ago

Almost everyone in the world has a favorite soda that they enjoy whenever they get the opportunity. But, is your favorite tasty drink worth giving up a military arsenal big enough to stock a whole country? Well, at one point in history, the Russians thought so.
In 1959, then-President Dwight Eisenhower wanted to bring our America culture to citizens of the Soviet Union and show them the benefits of capitalism.
To showcase their ideologies, the American government arranged the “American National Exhibition” in Moscow and sent then-Vice President Richard Nixon to attend the opening — but things were about to take a turn for the worse.
Nixon and Soviet leader Khrushchev got into an argument over the topic of capitalism versus communism. Their conversation got so heated that the vice president of Pepsi intervened and offered the Soviet leader a cup…

Job’s friends only made it worse

Job 6:21 “Now you too have proved to be of no help.”

You are sitting in a hospital room, where the faint smell of antiseptic lingers and the sound of lowered voices rustles all around you. The medical prognosis of your friend is bleak. You’ve listened to your friend’s anger and despair, and a jumble of other emotions. Now it’s your turn to reply. Everyone in the room waits for your response.

What do you say to a suffering person? The book of Job gives page after page of examples. Job’s three friends, finding him in despair, filled the air with high-sounding advice. But unfortunately they offer models of what not to say. Their main argument only made Job feel worse, and at the end God dismissed them all with a scowl.

Who Were Job’s Friends?

How Christian leaders should serve

From The Darkness Into The Light

[T]he major service of humble Christian spokespersons and leaders in society is to keep before the public—including governments—a true picture of what human well-being is and is not as well as the ways in which genuine human welfare can and must be served. To do this, Christian professionals, spokespeople for Christ, and servant leaders must remain gentle and wise stalwarts in the public square, where they speak, guide, and serve. They and their constituencies are in the real world, meaning they cannot and must not escape into some vague and impotent vision of privatization or renewed visions of a form of “Christ-ocracy” (previously known as Christendom) centered in the local church. Instead, Jesus advocates the very sensible idea that “a city built on a hill cannot be hid” anywhere, and we certainly must not “after lighting a lamp” put it “under a bushel basket” (Matt. 5:14–16).

Hear my cry for help,

    for to you I pray.

In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice;
in the morning I lay my requests before you

For you are not a God who is pleased with wickedness;
with you, evil people are not welcome.
The arrogant cannot stand

You hate all who do wrong;

The bloodthirsty and deceitful

But I, by your great love,

in reverence I bow down

40 Day Journey

From The Darkness Into The Light

Day 16

“You are the salt” not “You should be the salt”! The disciples are given no choice whether they want to be salt or not. No appeal is made to them to become the salt of the earth. Rather they just are salt whether they want to be or not, by the power of the call which has reached them. You are the salt․not “you have the salt.” It would diminish the meaning to equate the disciples’ message with salt, as the reformers did. What is meant is their whole existence, to the extent that it is newly grounded in Christ’s call to discipleship, that existence of which the Beatitudes speak. All those who follow Jesus’ call to discipleship are made by that call to be the salt of the earth in their whole existence.

Because of Who You Are

I need to post this before I sleep. ‘Twas a great Sabbath day.

I admit that my spiritual life has been low lately. It felt like I’m spending just a little time for God. I was requested to offer a musical offering for divine service earlier. When they asked me a week ago, there was already a song in my mind that I would like to sing.

As I prepare yesterday, I also tried a lot of songs but in the end I sang what I like to sing, Because of Who You Are by Sandi Patty. I just practiced a little since I already know the song and just spent more time watching and reading other things.

When we went to church earlier, it felt so normal. But when the service began and people came, my heart beat so fast and so loud. I thought that I’m not…

Cuba’s new constitution

Repeating Islands

3042In “Cuba ditches aim of building communism from draft constitution,” Reuters (The Guardian) reports on a draft of Cuba’s new constitution, which omits statements on building a Communist society, recognizes private property, and “opens the door” to same-sex marriage, although it keeps the Communist party as a guiding force. Here are excerpts from The Guardian:

Cuba’s national assembly was this weekend debating a draft of the document to replace its Soviet-era constitution, reflecting political, social and economic changes designed to make its brand of socialism sustainable.

Once lawmakers have approved the draft, it will be submitted to a popular consultation. The final document, which could include changes, will then be put to a national referendum. The draft omits a clause in the 1976 constitution on the ultimate aim of building a communist society, instead simply focusing on socialism. “This does not mean we are renouncing our ideas,”…

Asia seen resisting pressures on growth

Economy July 20, 2018 01:00

GROWTH in Asia and the Pacific’s developing economies for 2018 and 2019 will remain solid as growth continues apace across the region, despite rising tensions between the United States and some of its trading partners, says a new Asian Development Bank (ADB) report.

In a supplement to its Asian Development Outlook (ADO) 2018 report released last April, the ADB forecasts 2018 growth for Asia and the Pacific at 6 per cent for 2018 and 5.9 per cent for 2019, in line with its previous projections. Excluding Asia’s newly industrialised economies, growth is forecast at 6.5 per cent in 2018 and 6.4 per cent in 2019, also unchanged from April.

“Although rising trade tensions remain a concern for the region, protectionist trade measures implemented so far in 2018…

S&P Outlook improves for Asia -Pacific banks

Economy July 20, 2018 01:00

By The Nation

The negative ratings trend of Asia-Pacific’s banks has improved slightly despite downside risks, according to S&P Global Ratings in its quarterly report published yesterday, titled “Asia-Pacific Financial Institutions Monitor Q3 2018.”

The net negative outlook bias across the portfolio of over 300 rated financial institutions across 20 Asia-Pacific countries is about minus 6 per cent as of May 31, 2018.

Although negative rating outlooks still exceed positive rating outlooks, the negative bias has improved from minus 10 per cent as of the end of the first quarter.

While macroeconomic and financing conditions continue to be favourable overall in Asia-Pacific, risks emanating from the US are increasing.

“The more prominent key risks that threaten Asia-Pacific financial institutions’ credit quality include high private-sector indebtedness, elevated property prices, and…

Walking in His Will

“Teach me to do your will, for you are my God.” Psalm 143:10

We should always be grateful for God’s clear instructions for successful living and for revealing how we can gain a glorious eternity with Him. Yet simply reading and understanding God’s will for us isn’t enough. We must also choose in obedience to follow it—and that’s the difficult part. So often, we are too headstrong to submit.

The mother of a strong-willed four-year-old once said to her daughter, “Now, Cathy, you’re just going to have to obey me. I’m your boss, and I have the responsibility to lead you. That’s just what I intend to do.” Little Cathy thought for a minute, and then replied, “How long does it have to be that way?” Even at age four, this child was already yearning to forge her own path. Most of us were just as…

“He leads me in paths of righteousness for His Name’s sake” (Psalm 23:3b).

Learning From God's Word

We enter the Kingdom of God through the new birth. Jesus Christ is “the Door” to God’s Kingdom (John 10:9). To those who have come, in faith, to Him, the Lord Jesus says, “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me” (John 10:27).
* Where does the Good Shepherd lead those who follow Him?  – He leads us “in the paths of righteousness.”
* Why does the Good Shepherd lead His people in the paths of righteousness?  – It is “for His Name’s sake.”
The real goal of Christ-like living is not our pleasure. It is God’s glory. we find our true pleasure as we give glory to the Lord.
Are you following the Lord Jesus? He will lead you in the paths of righteousness for His Name’s sake.

The Politics of Consumption: From Trimalchio and Gatsby to Trump and Beyond

The Activist History Review

by Jason Schlude[1]

We live in an age of unconventionality and instability, dominated by President Trump. News cycles exhaust us as our eyes flit from one burning meteor to the next. We lose our bearings. In such times we look for patterns in the chaos reminiscent of past experience and hope ancient constellations may bring us safely home.

Enter Trimalchio—at center stage. Trimalchio was a slave freed and made heir to his former Roman master’s vast fortunes. We encounter him in the early novel of the Satyrica by Latin author Petronius.[2] Set against southern Italy in the first century CE, Trimalchio is larger than life. When encountered by Encolpius, who narrates the Satyrica, Trimalchio is a bald, corpulent man nearing his golden years, playing ball games with pretty boys in public, pausing only to expose himself, unselfconsciously, to use his silver chamber pot.

Reformed Doctrine Daily Devotions

Today’s devotion comes from Matthew 24:32-51.  Here is a link to this Scripture –

I quote only the following verses.

“Therefore be on the alert, for you do not know which day your Lord is coming.  But be sure of this, that if the head of the house had known at what time of the night the thief was coming, he would have been on the alert and would not have allowed his house to be broken into.  For this reason you also must be ready;  for the Son of Man is coming at an hour when you do not think He will.

“Who then is the faithful and sensible slave whom his master put in charge of his household to give them their food at the proper time?  Blessed is that slave whom his master finds so doing when he comes.  Truly I say to you that he…

“Be on the alert then, for you do not know the day nor the hour.” – “the prudent took oil in flasks along with their lamps.” – How do we apply the lesson of this parable of the Ten Virgins and carry oil along with our lamps?

Reformed Doctrine Daily Devotions

Today’s devotion comes from Matthew 25:1-13.

““Then the kingdom of heaven will be comparable to ten virgins, who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom.  Five of them were foolish, and five were prudent.  For when the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them, but the prudent took oil in flasks along with their lamps.  Now while the bridegroom was delaying, they all got drowsy and began to sleep.  But at midnight there was a shout, ‘Behold, the bridegroom!  Come out to meet him.’  Then all those virgins rose and trimmed their lamps.  The foolish said to the prudent, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’  But the prudent answered, ‘No, there will not be enough for us and you too;  go instead to the dealers and buy some for yourselves.’  And while they were going away to…

Sacred Peer-Review Takes A Big Hit

PA Pundits International

From the team at CFACT ~

Global warming alarmists suffered a big hit this week in their effort to deify shoddy “peer-reviewed” climate papers. Stanford University medical professor John Ioannidis, in an interview with Agence France Presse (AFP), blew the lid off the trustworthiness of the peer-review process.

When the alarmist community seeks to push a new argument or messaging strategy in the global warming debate, they first have one of their pseudo-scientists write an article for publication in a compromised peer-reviewed journal. The political left has infiltrated and taken over most science journals that address political hot topics, much as they have taken over most of the “mainstream” news media. This is especially the case regarding global warming issues. As the leaked Climategate emails revealed, editors of science journals typically are prominent alarmists or deliberately coordinate with prominent alarmists in the selection of articles and messaging (see…

5 Things You Need to Believe About Jesus’ 2nd Coming — The Aquila Report

Truth2Freedom's Blog

Peter called the crowd to repentance, promising “that your sins may be blotted out, that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, and that he may send the Christ appointed for you, Jesus, whom heaven must receive until the time for restoring all things about which God spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets” (3:19-21; emphasis added). Several features of this striking sermon command our attention.

The inauguration of the kingdom in Christ’s death, resurrection, ascension, and the outpouring of the Spirit directed believers’ hopes toward a coming consummation of the kingdom, when the King now enthroned in heaven would return to earth as the rescuer of his people and the judge of all. This is the promise that two “men” in white robes, angelic messengers from God’s heavenly court, announced to the dazed disciples as they stared upward after their departed Master: “Men of…

Clear the Way for God

From The Darkness Into The Light

A voice of one calling: “In the wilderness prepare the way for the LORD; make straight in the desert a highway for our God. Every valley shall be raised up, every mountain and hill made low; the rough ground shall become level, the rugged places a plain.” — Isaiah 40:3-4

At sundown, July 21, Jews around the world will commemorate Tisha B’Av, a time of mourning that marks the many tragedies that befell the Jewish people throughout history on this particular date. Yet from this time of sorrow comes a ray of hope. This is one of 12 devotions exploring the depths of tragedy, and what we can do to transform darkness into light. To learn more about Tisha B’Av, download a copy of our free Bible Study.

Uniquely You, Day 3

From The Darkness Into The Light

Today’s reading is drawn from Matthew 25:15.

Da Vinci painted one Mona Lisa. Beethoven composed one Fifth Symphony. And God made one version of you. He custom designed you for a one-of-a-kind assignment. Mine like a gold digger the unique-to-you nuggets from your life . . .

When God gives an assignment, he also gives the skill. Study your skills, then, to reveal your assignment.

Look at you. Your uncanny ease with numbers. Your quenchless curiosity about chemistry. Others stare at blueprints and yawn; you read them and drool. “I was made to do this,” you say.

Our Maker gives assignments to people, to each according to each one’s unique ability. As he calls, he equips. Look back over your life. What have you consistently done well? What have you loved to do? Stand at the intersection of your affections and successes and find your uniqueness.

Happy Independence Day – From the Mountainside Where Freedom Rings

Tom Hamilton Photography

For a couple of years, I’ve been exploring the wonders of North Fork Mountain in West Virginia’s Allegheny Mountains. This hidden gem, while close to other well known sites has visitation levels far far less. This can be accounted for by it’s difficulty in access coupled with little knowledge of its attractions.

However, North Fork Mountain may be one of the most geologically and biologically significant sites on the East Coast. It is host to Seneca Rocks, nearby caves, 4,000’+ elevations, and and an impressive rock face along it’s spine. Biologically, it supports one of the driest areas East of the Mississippi, in addition to cool weather species commonly found in the in boreal forest and subarctic regions.

For the past couple of years, I have been attempting to capture the beauty of these incredible sites, but it hasn’t been easy. Many of the most unique sites are located 1500′…

Four Thai Boys Saved From Flooding Cave

World Register

Reuters news agency reports four of 12 Thai schoolboys were rescued from a flooded cave on Sunday as divers launched a daring and dangerous mission to free the children and their soccer coach who have been trapped underground for more than two weeks, officials said.

According to the report, thirteen foreign divers and five members of Thailand’s elite navy SEAL unit guided the boys to safety through narrow, submerged passageways that claimed the life of a former Thai navy diver on Friday.

As night fell, the operation to rescue the remaining eight boys – some as young as 11 and weak swimmers – and their coach was called off until Monday morning.
